Operation: Monster Storms Overview

Operation: Monster Storms will transport classrooms to the center of Earth's most extreme weather events. You will join some of the world's leading weather researchers in the field to study the mechanics of weather in an exciting, outcomes-based, multimedia curriculum developed with NASA, NOAA and National Geographic. Designed for grades 5-8 (but with the flexibility for teachers to adapt to higher/lower levels), the curriculum covers key state ScienceOutcomes as it focuses on connecting students with great explorers and great events through:

  • Hurricanes/Cyclones, tornadoes, thunderstorms and lightning
  • Weather dynamics and storm formation
  • Forecasting, warnings and safety precautions
  • Extreme weather impact and human interaction
  • Climate and global monitoring
